Again, another one for women that is essential to know but not enough awareness has been raised. Not having children myself, I don’t know if this is something which is raised by doctors during pregnancy.
Eclampsia is an unusual but severe complication and the next stage of pre-eclampsia. Pre-eclampsia is a condition related to high blood pressure and other symptoms in the second trimester of pregnancy.
1 in about 200 women who suffer with pre-eclampsia will suffer with eclampsia and are vulnerable to full tonic clonic seizures and/or comas. There does not have to be a history of seizures in order to develop them during this time.
Seizures, as doctors will inform those who have them and epilepsy, are extremely detrimental to the health of the unborn baby; therefore, treatment, dependent on the severity of the seizures, may be a suitable AED.
